He is notable for having been both uncommonly kind and dreadfully foolish during his active days, a fact still reflected in his devotion to protecting the once-human beasts of the ruined district. When you first enter the area he will warn you away and will fire upon you with an emplaced gatling gun; you may choose to scale the tower and confront him or leave him alone and proceed on to the boss.

By interrupting one of his attacks with his back to the edge, however, you can turn Djura's advantage against him and throw him from the tower with a visceral attack, killing him in the process. Djura is deeply sympathetic to the beasts and will actively hunt down any Hunters who cause trouble in Old Yharnam.
Befriending Djura means playing Bloodborne in a fairly unorthodox way. While there are anecdotal claims about only needing to defeat the Blood Starved Beast to make Djura friendly, Darkbeast Paarl is the actual trigger.

This guys quest is all over the place and honestly doesn't seem finished. The die to paarl strategy is weird because paarl isn't even the only trigger to get him friendly. Djura can get hostile if you kill the npc thats next to him too.

While I was doing that, I climbed the ladder on the building in front of Djura, then saw there was a beast up top and went back down the ladder.
