Messenger service windows 2008

I'm not sure about server but the work around to get it installed on Server should hopefully work in Server If you go here and download the file at that link you should have no problems : The problem is that the normal installer just downloads the file I linked anyway but it itself is not supported in Server for some reason.

Enjoy :D. Search for the windows live messenger MSI from microsoft website as apose to the wlive. I am running the latest Windows Live Messenger on Server Search In. Windows Messenger and Windows Server Share More sharing options It only requires that the Messenger Service be started. Either way, the message will be sent as long as the target computer has the Messenger Service running. This method of instant messaging requires no Internet connection; rather, just a local network.

This is due to the architecture of the MailSlot protocol, which is what the Messenger Service is based on. It is available in all Windows versions from Windows for Workgroups 3.

There is also a port to Linux called LinPopup, which allows you to send and receive messages on Linux. Also, is there anyway of Does anyone know why Microsoft got rid of 'messenger' in the services of server ? Also, is there anyway of bringing it back? Net Send is also gone in Vista. They disabled it by defult in XP, they have been trying to get rid for a while.

I doubt it will come back to be honest. Vista and Server changed the way services interact with the desktop - if you have UAC control turned on then anything which is not running as "you" and that includes most services can't just "do stuff" on your screen - it has to pop up a message saying "application X wants your attention" You then get to see what it has to say and you can OK etc.
